Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) has appointed Simphiwe Nghona as its new sales and marketing director.

Nghona succeeds Thomas Milz.

Nghona is no stranger to Volkswagen or the automotive industry, and has served as the head of sales and marketing at VWGA’s national sales organisation since July 1, last year.

He now steps up to drive the car maker’s strategic sales and marketing business unit.

Prior to joining VWGA, Nghona served as group head of vehicle and asset finance at Standard Bank, where he was responsible for strategy and execution in five business units across 14 African countries.

He has also served as CEO of the Motor Division at WesBank, where he led the sales and marketing functions and managed strategic relationships with stakeholders such as vehicle manufacturers, motor dealers and financial partners.

He has also gained experience as dealer principal and executive director at the VW Market Square dealership in Kariega.

Nghona holds a postgraduate diploma in Business Management from Henley Business School (University of Reading, UK) and has completed an advanced management programme at INSEAD Business School, in France.
